Dru's Place

Not Just a Bar, It's Your Bar!

A Wonderful Night

Posted by tmontgomer on July 11, 2011 at 2:48 AM

I have to tell you all that Saturday night was a wonderful experience.  A few weeks ago I met this couple and found out that one of them was a musician.  I had the pleasure of going to see her perform at Mulligans downtown and really enjoyed the show.  I asked if she would like to play at the bar and she graciously accepted.  Little did I know how much her performance would actually end up meaning to me.

I will be honest the past few weeks have been a struggle in many ways.  Its so easy to get lost in all the little things and forget the reason I push forward to do what I do.  You see Dru's is more than just a business to me.  I want a place where all people feel welcomed, appreciated and yes loved.  The people who chose to share a part of their lives with us are family.  It is about doing everything you can do with what you have to make a difference.  Sometimes it may be in someones life when they just need a smile or someone to listen and sometimes it is in helping our community.  There is alot of responisbility owning a business.  There are people who depend on you for their income to provide food, clothing and shelter for themselves and their families, there are other business who depend on you to buy goods so that they can stay open, the city depends on you to pay taxes, customers depend on you to be there, it can be alot to deal with when you really think about it.  It's not an easy life, but I have to tell you my cheeks hurt from smiling so much.

Last night I witnessed a young woman get up on stage and connect with bar full of people.  It was not just her talent that created the connection.  It was her spirit!  And it was beautiful.  With every clap of hands I felt her gratitude toward the people in the room and her love for them.  When it was over I held her as she broke down in tears of joy.  It was so pure and it touched my heart.  Sometimes a night comes along that is just magical!

Many of you who know me realize I have a love for music and have spent alot of time, energy and money to bring live music to our community.  Its important to me because I feel music brings people together.  It transends all boundries...gay, straight, black, white, male, female, rich or poor. I have just wanted to be a place where a singer or band can come and touch peoples lives and create a connection between the song and the person listening.  I think what made the performance Saturday so special is that the performer took nothing for granted.  She appreciated every clap, yell and smile and the audience could feel it.  My hope for everyone reading this is that no matter which side of lifes stage you find youself on you find that connection and embrace it because it precious.

It feels good knowing that we have such good friends there that no matter what we all got each other to lean on in good and bad times... Marie was awesome and can't wait to see her again... I bet it was a wonderful night. It is not often that someone can move a person's soul by connecting quickly either thru song, presence, or a listening ear.

I had an awesome experience Saturday night. We don't get out much, so when we do it is amazing to meet such wonderful people. marie was so beautiful in her spirit and her stage presence was as amazing as her soul!!! I fell in love with her kindness and the humble and eager qualities to listen and recieve praise for the gift she shared with us all! And I want to thank you, for giving people like her a place to share those gifts, it means alot to know that when we do want to celebrate a night on the town that we can always count on you to give us a wonderful place of acceptance to go!
